WORLD’S MOST DANGEROUS BORDER

If you’re wondering how I came up with the title for this border article, I didn’t. It was actually watching the HBO Series called “VICE” where they considered the “India & Pakistan” border to be the “World’s Most Dangerous Border”.

I love watching VICE as it gives meaning to the word “It’s a Jungle out there”. Unfortunately, there was a bomb blast that killed many people at the Wagah Border recently; but it’s an experience I will never forget.

HERE IS THE VICE VIDEO.

I was very lucky and fortunate to have a friend of mine who was able to set up a VIP escort of me and my family to and from Wagah Border, which made the trip very smooth however it was still not as comfortable as one would hope. I would like to thank not only my friend who made this possible but also the Captain of the Pakistani Rangers for giving us VIP Escort.

HERE IS OUR ACTUAL VIDEO.

Wagah is a border town straddling the line between Pakistan and India, 29 km from the town of Lahore on the Pakistani side and 27 km from Amritsar on the Indian side

Remember, this is the only crossing point between Pakistan and India that is regularly open to foreigners. If you are planning on crossing the border, you should aim to get there as early as possible. The Wagah border is open every day from 9.00 AM to 3.30 PM and Border formalities can take anywhere from 30 minutes to over two hours, and you will need to arrange a visa before you arrive.

The “NO MAN’s LAND” between the countries can ONLY be crossed either by the approved International Buses or you’ll have to walk the 500m between the border post yourself. **I highly advise against that**.

There is a daily flag raising and lowering ceremony at Wagah Border, done with fascinating pomp and ceremony that involves lots of tall soldiers in massive turbans goose-stepping about and slamming gates. Both the Pakistani Rangers and Indian border forces do this and it has become a tradition for people from both sides to gather and see this. Both sides synchronize their parade and the entire event is meant to create a feel-good/patriotic fervor amongst the crowd. It is called the beating retreat ceremony.

I hope you will enjoy the video and see the experience from my eyes.

Please share this with your friends and families. Have a good one.
